Butane is a strategic product in Egypt where UGDC NGL plant satisfies a big share of this product to the local market demand. Liquefied petroleum gas, also called LPG, GPL, LP Gas, liquid petroleum gas, consisting of 10% to35% propane and the rest is butane depending on the market demand ,it is a flammable colorless and odorless mixture of hydrocarbon gases mainly propane and butane. It is increasingly used as an aerosol propellant, replacing chlorofluorocarbons in an effort to reduce damage to the ozone layer. When specifically used as a vehicle fuel it is often referred to as auto gas. Commonly a strong odor additive called mercaptan rotten cabbage smell like and colorless is added to LPG to alert for the risk of leakage gas. LPG is synthesized by refining petroleum or "wet" natural gas, and is almost entirely derived from fossil fuel sources, being manufactured during the refining of petroleum (crude oil), or extracted from petroleum or natural gas streams as they emerge from the ground.
